Cogitating...
about ‘they’. Who are ‘they’? My strong belief is that ‘they’ are an elite group of incredibly wise Chinese men in white overalls who live in a locked room and have all the answers to everything anybody can ever need to know. When we say ‘they say’ what we mean is that someone who knows where ‘they’ live has posted a question through their letterbox and has waited outside while they discuss it, run it through their computers, write their answer down on a little piece of blue paper - and duly post it back. It seems to me that ‘they’ must be very busy indeed - but also pale and somewhat depressed at being permanently shut in that room. Given their likely mental state, I shall be cautious about what ‘they’ say in future. Oh well, another drink over and another problem resolved.
